Alpamayo
Overview
Alpamayo 5749 m / 19 511ft, is one of the most conspicuous peaks in the Cordillera Blanca of the Peruvian Andes, it is considered the “most beautiful mountain in the world”, it is located on the north side of the Cordillera Blanca, where probably the most spectacular mountains of this range. High peaks, eternal snow, stepped walls, make this the favorite of climbers from all over the world.
Included
- Transport: From Huaraz to the starting point of your activity, and from the end point of your activity back to Huaraz. We use private transport, minivans and other types of cars, depending on the size of the group.
- Guide: Qualified and experienced mountain guide who speaks Spanish and English.
- Cook: A professional cook who is trained to prepare healthy dishes in a hygienic manner, depending on the size of the group.
- Muleteers: In charge of taking the donkeys with our materials and backpacks, taking care of them and guiding them. (depending on the expedition we are replaced by porters / people who load things)
- Donkeys: The number of donkeys provided depends on the size of the group. The donkeys carry tents, food, climbing rope to base camp and back, but you must bring your own personal equipment. (depending on the expedition we are replaced by porters / people who load things)
- Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch and dinner.
- Equipment: Good quality high mountain tent, sleeping mattress, ropes, carabiners, dining tent (depending on the size of the group), table and chairs, first aid kit, stove, crockery and kitchen utensils. We can also provide you with personal mountain equipment if you do not have one.
- Entrance fee: for the national park.
Exclude
- First breakfast, last dinner, soft or alcoholic beverages, medical treatment, travel insurance, tips, additional expenses as a result of leaving the expedition early, additional expenses as a result of rescue or emergency evacuation.
What to Bring
- Mountain backpack (65 liters).
- Sleeping bag (-25 C)
- Walking poles if you have knee problems.
- Mountaineering boots – If you don’t have one, we provide it for you.
- Crampons – If you don’t have one, we provide it for you.
- Ice ax – If you don’t have one, we provide it for you.
- Helmet – If you don’t have one, we provide it for you.
- Harness – If you don’t have one, we provide it for you.
- Headlamp (with spare batteries)
- Sun protection: sunscreen (minimum factor 40), hat, good sunglasses
- Well used in mountain boots or trekking shoes
- Comfortable clothing: T-shirt (quick-drying or merino wool recommended), trekking pants or leggings, sweater, wool trekking socks, underwear, long thermal underwear, fleece, gloves, hat, buff.
- Down jacket quality 650 to 900 thermal degrees
- Waterproof jacket and pants (Gore-Tex recommended)
- Gore-Tex gloves
- Bottle of water 1 liter, We will provide you with boiled and purified water
- Toilet paper, personal toiletries, small towel
- Extra snacks and money

Tour Plan
- We will leave Huaraz at 07:00 am.
- We will follow the route to the north of the CallejĆ³n de Huaylas until we reach Caraz, at 2200 m above sea level. Approximately 2 hours by car.
- The next stop will be in Cashapampa, at 2900 m above sea level, where we will begin the hike for about 4 to 5 hours.
- We will spend the first night at the Llamacoral Camp, at 3760 m above sea level.
- We will have breakfast at 08:00 am.
- We will begin a 5 - 6 hour trek through the ravine, visiting the Jatuncocha Lagoon.
- Then we will go up a zigzag path to the Arhuaycocha Ravine.
- From there we will go to the Alpamayo Base Camp, at 4300 m above sea level.
- Dinner and rest.
- Breakfast at 06:00 am, to begin the 8 to 9 hours of ascent. Start at 4300 m
- Then, we will walk to the Morrena Camp, at 4900 m above sea level.
- From this place we will enter the glacier, where we will have to use climbing tools to reach Camp One of Alpamayo. 5300m.
- At the Collado we will set up camp to observe the west face of Alpamayo, have dinner and rest.
- The day begins at 23:00 pm, preparing the equipment.
- We will begin the climb, approaching the wall and crossing the rimaye. 5300 m.
- We will continue along the wall, following the 500 m French direct line and 70 and 80Ā° near the summit until we reach the pyramidal summit of Alpamayo, at 5947 m high.
- From there we will have spectacular views of lagoons and mountains.
- After having enjoyed the landscape and having recovered some energy, we will descend the wall with rappels to return to Camp One.
- Dinner and rest after 14 - 16 hours of activity of the day.
- Breakfast at 5300 m.
- We will continue the descent with rappels and walking for 6 to 8 hours to the Alpamayo Base Camp.
- Here we can rest and have dinner. 4300 m

- We will walk through the Arhuaycocha Valley, descending through the Santa Cruz ravine to Cashapampa for 7 to 8 hours. 2900 m
- From here the trip will be by bus to Huaraz. 3200 m
