Ishinca and Huascarán
Overview
Nevado Urus – Ishinca – Tocllaraju are located in the Cordillera Blanca, they belong to the Chinchey Massif, they are in the Ishinca ravine, chosen by many tourists for a good acclimatization before climbing some other peak of more than 6000 m. Nevado Huascaran is the highest tropical mountain in Peru that is surrounded by numerous peaks above 5000 meters in the Cordillera Blanca sector.
Included
- Transport: From Huaraz to the starting point of your activity, and from the end point of your activity back to Huaraz. We use private transport, minivans and other types of cars, depending on the size of the group.
- Guide: Qualified and experienced mountain guide who speaks Spanish and English.
- Cook: A professional cook who is trained to prepare healthy dishes in a hygienic manner, depending on the size of the group.
- Muleteers: In charge of taking the donkeys with our materials and backpacks, taking care of them and guiding them. (depending on the expedition we are replaced by porters / people who load things)
- Donkeys: The number of donkeys provided depends on the size of the group. The donkeys carry tents, food, climbing rope to base camp and back, but you must bring your own personal equipment. (depending on the expedition we are replaced by porters / people who load things)
- Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch and dinner.
- Equipment: Good quality high mountain tent, sleeping mattress, ropes, carabiners, dining tent (depending on the size of the group), table and chairs, first aid kit, stove, crockery and kitchen utensils. We can also provide you with personal mountain equipment if you do not have one.
- Entrance fee: for the national park.
Exclude
- First breakfast, last dinner, soft or alcoholic beverages, medical treatment, travel insurance, tips, additional expenses as a result of leaving the expedition early, additional expenses as a result of rescue or emergency evacuation.
What to Bring
- Mountain backpack (65 liters).
- Sleeping bag (-25 C)
- Walking poles if you have knee problems.
- Mountaineering boots – If you don’t have one, we provide it for you.
- Crampons – If you don’t have one, we provide it for you.
- Ice ax – If you don’t have one, we provide it for you.
- Helmet – If you don’t have one, we provide it for you.
- Harness – If you don’t have one, we provide it for you.
- Headlamp (with spare batteries)
- Sun protection: sunscreen (minimum factor 40), hat, good sunglasses
- Well used in mountain boots or trekking shoes
- Comfortable clothing: T-shirt (quick-drying or merino wool recommended), trekking pants or leggings, sweater, wool trekking socks, underwear, long thermal underwear, fleece, gloves, hat, buff.
- Down jacket quality 650 to 900 thermal degrees
- Waterproof jacket and pants (Gore-Tex recommended)
- Gore-Tex gloves
- Bottle of water 1 liter, We will provide you with boiled and purified water
- Toilet paper, personal toiletries, small towel
- Extra snacks and money

Tour Plan
From Huaraz we will go to Cochapamapa where our muleteer (donkey driver) awaits us. There we will begin our walk passing through quenuales trees to base camp. 4 hours approx.
We will begin our ascent at 3 am along a steep ridge until we reach the glacier and we will climb to the summit along a spectacular ridge with views of Nevado Tocllaraju, Ranrapalca and others. After making the summit, we will descend to the base camp. 5 hours approx.
We will make our ascent at 3 am. On a zigzag path to the glacier where we will undertake a journey to the top. From where you have a true panoramic view. Then we will descend to Base Camp.
(Optional. If not, it can be used to visit the Milhuacocha Lagoon, which is a 2-hour walk.
This day we will go up a Zigzag path for about 4 hours until we reach 5100m where we will camp.
We start the ascent at 1 am through a wide glacier until we reach the first wall of 50 m. (55 – 65°), after overcoming this wall we will reach the edge with a view of the alley of conchucos. And we will continue to the summit where we will have a splendid view. We will descend to base camp in the afternoon. 6 to 7 hours approx.
This last day is a leisurely walk to Cochapampa and return to Huaraz by transport. 3 ½ hrs approx.
Free day at your disposal.
From Huaraz we move to the Musho town, where we will start our trek passing through a eucalyptus forest until we reach base camp. This day we have muleteers and donkeys during the walk. 4 to 5 hours approx.
This day we will start our walk making a journey through a gigantic moraine of granite bales until we reach the glacier, then we will continue through a widening glacier until we exceed 5260m where we will set up our camp. 5 to 6 hours approx.
We will start our ascent to camp 2 early in order to avoid the seracs of the crossing after the gutter. It is a calm day of 4 hrs approx.
We start our ascent at 1 am zigzag to avoid cracks, then we will climb corridors with a 50 to 60° inclination. Overcoming all the corridors we will reach a very wide glacier where we will continue ascending in a zigzag fashion until we reach the top. From the top you will be able to appreciate a mountain range of the white cordillera. Then we will descend to camp 2, there we will spend the night. 6 to 7 hours approx.
We will descend by the same route that we already traveled to the base camp. (4250m) 4 to 5 hours approx.
We will descend to the town of Musho where our mobility awaits us to move to Huaraz. 3 hrs walk 2 ½ hrs in transport.
